Not sure what every antivirus software does, but they could do something to lock a disk when an individual file scanning is under way. However I found (1) I was not given any chance to configure a virtual network (I obtained a new IP for the same physical machine, for external access to the VM OS) (2) I didn't find any chance to create a root password. So I took a different approach - I installed VMware Plyer 2.5.1, and from within VMware player I was able to download and start fedora 10. To be sure, I started all over from fresh and got the same thing (both ports are not connectible with a browser.
